Studio Rental

The Hot Shop of The Orange Beach Arts Center is available for rental when there are no classes or other events in progress. Rental times must be booked in advance. Bookings are taken Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. See the chart below for rental rates. Call The Studio or stop in to schedule rental time (251-981-2787).

Small
Gloryhole

 $30/hr Minimum
3 hours
The small gloryhole is 9 X 12 inches. Reasonable annealer space, 10 lbs of glass/per hour  and a standard annealing cycle is included in this rate.  Also included; pipes, bench, blocks, hand tools, propane torch, and hand torch.  We are happy to rent this along with a larger gloryhole if you are working production style or would just prefer to have it for your assistant's use. 
 

Large Gloryhole

 $45/hr Minimum
3 hours
The large gloryhole is 22" X 30". Reasonable annealer space, 10 lbs of glass/per hour  and a standard annealing cycle is included in this rate.  Also included; pipes, bench, blocks, hand tools propane torch, hand torch.  We are happy to rent this along with a larger gloryhole if you are working production style or would just prefer to have it for your assistant's use. 
 

Toolbox

 Provided with Rental Our toolbox includes a full-set of well maintained and sharp tools. Spiral Arts Pipes are included as well.


Cold-Shop Rental

 $10/hr We provide a basic cold-shop with a lap-wheel, belt sander and chop-saw.


Hand
Torch Rental

 $8/hr Oxy-propane hand torch.

Casting Rate

 $40/hr
10 lbs/hour strictly enforced, including crack-off, floor models, etc. Excessive glass usage will be charged at $2.50 per lb. Renter must have an assistant or make arrangements with the studio (at additional expense). Gathering ball, ladle, bench torch, and punties are included in hourly rate. Gloryhole or glassblowing tool usage will be additional expense.
 

 

  • All Renters must be qualified. Completion of certain courses will count as qualification. First time renters must complete an orientation and be approved before renting the studio equipment. Orientations can be arranged by contacting us by phone or e-mail. Unless you make prior arrangements, orientation will occur during your scheduled blow slot.
     
  • All blow slots must be scheduled in advance. You are welcome to stop by and see if there are openings, but there is no guarantee that we can accommodate your needs without a prior reservation.
     
  • Extra time may be added to your scheduled blow slot only if time is available. Extra time can be rented in 1 hour increments at the hourly rate.  To see if extra time is available, please talk to the personnel on duty.
     
  • All renters are responsible for knowing the studio rules. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.
     
  • The use of the oxy-propane torches requires a separate orientation. These torches can be extremely dangerous. Orientations can be arranged by contacting us by phone or e-mail. Beginning renters and students may be restricted to using Mapp gas torches as an alternative.

    Failure to cancel scheduled hotshop rental time at least 24 hours in advance will result in a $60.00 cancellation/no show fee. For cancellations call the Arts Center at 251-981-2787 (if you do not reach a live person, please leave a message).

    Additional Notes:

    • There is no refund for cancellation of prepaid rentals.
    • Hot shop rental includes the use of one glory hole, furnace, and annealer for an overnight cycle. An additional fee is required for annealing longer than overnight. It includes 10 lbs of glass/hour. More than the allotted glass will be charged at $2.00/lb. of glass removed from the furnace and will include the work, crackoff, and drip off.
